A man was arrested after allegedly impersonating a U.S. marshal. 61-year-old John O’Grady was arrested inside a Best Buy. Employees said they saw O’Grady shoplift an iPhone X days earlier but never filed a report. But when they saw O’Grady in the store again, they called police. When police confronted O’Grady, he told them he had a gun and said he was a federal marshal. Police quickly discovered that he was lying. "Do you have any weapons on you, sir?" an officer asked in the video. "Yes," O'Grady answered. "OK, where is it at?" the officer asked. "On my hip," O'Grady said. "OK, are you a police officer?" the officer asked. “I’m not,” O’Grady said. "You're carrying a fake weapon and you're a federal marshal?" another officer asked. "No," O'Grady said. "Oh, you're not?" the officer asked. "No," O'Grady said "Congratulations, you just impersonated a police officer," the officer said. "That's a federal offense." O’Grady, who later said he was a limo driver, was actually carrying a bb gun. He told police he didn’t know it was illegal to carry a fake U.S. marshal badge. Police said they later found an iPhone X in O’Grady’s car with a serial number that matched the one stolen days earlier. O’Grady denied stealing the phone. He faces impersonating a law enforcement officer and retail theft charges.
