Police in East Texas have charged a man who they say tried to hire someone to kill his pregnant wife by offering proceeds from a ring she wore as payment. Thirty-two-year-old Chip Owens of Tyler was being held at the Smith County Jail Tuesday morning on $1 million bond.

A Tyler man who police say attempted to hire a hitman to kill his wife was worried she would turn his son against him. An affidavit released Monday details an elaborate plan to kill the pregnant woman and a history of extramarital affairs that also played a role in the plot.

The Sheriff's office was assisted by 35 officers from 13 different agencies. 10 teams of three to four officers began knocking on doors shortly after 6:00 a.m. The officers had 98 names to check in the county including Wells, Rusk and Alto.

East Texas residents are planning a solidarity march in the wake of a police shooting in Ferguson, Missouri and a choking death Staten Island, New York. The march follows a grand jury decisions not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown or Officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of Eric Garner.

The march was a public event organized by Tyler resident Ambra Phillips in response to police-related killings of unarmed black Americans across the country. Approximately 200 people attended the march.

Gateway to Hope is a resource day center for homeless people and those in need living in the Tyler and Smith County. Boatner used the computer to search for job opportunities and Dykes used the computer to work on a play about homelessness he wrote.
