UPDATE: Timothy Choice was found guilty this afternoon of a felony charge of intentionally and knowingly causing serious bodily injury to a child, a felony offense. The Smith County jury hearing the case deliberated for about 90 minutes before returning the verdict.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office is hosting a training class on Organized Crime on the 24th and 25th of this month for all members of law enforcement and Smith County area communities. Organized crime including drug cartels is a major problem that, until fairly recently, was little known.

In response to a question about setting bonds for release, Beavers answered that he sets reasonable bonds but "if a community leader comes to me about someone, I don't have a problem with letting them out on a bond, just on their word."
