At approximately 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 3014 Smith County Sheriff's Office Special Services and Criminal Investigations Division detectives along with patrol deputies executed a search warrant at the 15800 block of Highway 64 East in the eastern portion of Smith County Judge Christi Kennedy of the 114st State District Court issued the warrant authorizing the search of the residence following an investigation lasting several months. The Smith County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division worked in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration during this investigation.

A man who has falsely claimed he was an elite Navy Seal and a veteran of the Vietnam War, and who last year clashed with police over his arrest for animal cruelty, has been arrested on much more serious charges by U.S. marshals - three felony counts of possession of child pornography. Gaylord Stevens, also known as Steven Hawke, was arrested in San Antonio on Wednesday on the Smith County charges and was expected to be booked into the Smith County Jail late Thursday on the charges and with bonds totaling $300,000.

The Smith County Sheriff's Office is hosting a training class on Organized Crime on the 24th and 25th of this month for all members of law enforcement and Smith County area communities. Organized crime including drug cartels is a major problem that, until fairly recently, was little known.

UPDATE: Timothy Choice was found guilty this afternoon of a felony charge of intentionally and knowingly causing serious bodily injury to a child, a felony offense. The Smith County jury hearing the case deliberated for about 90 minutes before returning the verdict.
