A South Riding family can thank their dog for escaping a fire early Sunday in their house, a Washington TV station reported Monday. About an hour before sunrise on Sunday, two adults and a child were awakened and alerted to the fire by the family's 14-year-old dog , according to WUSA Channel 9. The home's smoke alarms then went off and confirmed the fire, and the family evacuated the structure.

A man named as a person of interest in the disappearance of a 21-year-old Ashburn woman may have said things to his girlfriend that implicate him in the 2011 incident, a Washington TV station reported Monday. Detectives from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office have interviewed Ronald Roldan in North Carolina about the case of Bethany Decker, who vanished four years ago from her Ashburn apartmen t, according to WJLA Channel 7. The young mother and wife of a soldier in Afghanistan was five months pregnant when she disappeared.

The plague of graffiti in the area continued last weekend, as a vandal or vandals spray-painted a home, a business and two vehicles in a neighborhood near the Sterling Plaza shopping center. Two incidents occurred on Essex Square in Sterling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
