Blizzard to Allow Global Play in StarCraft II

Also available for : PC

When Heart of the Swarm is released at some point in the future, Blizzard is planning on not only adding a new story campaign and multiplayer units, but additional battle.net functionality. According to an update from production director Chris Sigaty, this will include multiplayer replay viewing, unranked matchmaking, Global Play, multilanguage support, a clan system and multiplayer resume from replay.

What does that all mean? Well, with the resume from replay function, any competitive matches that suddenly get disconnected can start back up from the interrupt point instead of having to be entirely tossed out.

A Global Play system is also in the works so you can play with others outside your region, and the ability to play in online matches against others of roughly similar skill level without having to mess up your ladder ranking will also be added in.

The update also teased how an early version of Heart of the Swarm will be playable at the upcoming MLG Spring Championship from June 8 – 10.

©2012-05-07, IGN Entertainment, Inc.
